In a country which can afford the extravagance of
an event such as the Super Bowl, it is simply not acceptable to have families
living on the streets. The Super Bowl Project is committed to the possibility
that every child in the United States can be adequately clothed, sheltered,
and fed a complete and healthy diet daily. In a time of budget deficits in
statehouses across the country, much of the safety net for our poorest citizens
has eroded. It has become popular in certain circles to think of the poor
as being lazy and undeserving of assistance. This is a cruel and callous attitude
and is a blot on our good name as a people.
Through a combination of media efforts and targeted
lobbying, our intention is to create a shift in the predominant thinking regarding
our support for the poor - especially the children. We know that we cannot
change the world overnight, but we need to start shifting the conversation
in a direction which respects the dignity of EVERY
human being. We need to recover that spirit of American opportunity in which
ANY child can grow up to be a success
